N.Ireland Paramilitary Loan Sharks Target Food Bank Users
A BBC Spotlight investigation has revealed that Northern Irish food bank users have been targeted by aggressive paramilitary loan sharks who have even forced some targets into paying off debts with their own prescription drugs.
Many loan sharks who came from outside areas knew precise details of Universal Credit payment dates of those they cold-called according to sources interviewed, having watched them queue up for food banks.
One interviewee told Spotlight that he believed local loyalist paramilitaries were a better option to help sort out financial struggles as “it’s their area, they control it.”
